She Walked Ahead, Leading Him Through a Blizzard of Characters (2008)
A two thousand word text written by an anonymous ghostwriter, printed and pasted directly onto the gallery wall, which is immediately re-plastered. The text brings to life the fictional character Alan Smithee, a pseudonym used between 1968 and 1999 by cinema directors who wanted to dissociate themselves from a film for which they no longer wanted credit. The text that was originally commissioned by the artist Mario Garcia Torres, to be used in the performance ‘I am not a flopper or...’ (2007) at the Frieze Art Fair, was ultimately unsettled, unpublished and unwanted.
